Gentle Plasma System for Treating Diabetic Ulcers

Liao Jiunn-der, National Cheng Kung University
Year 2014Year Period:2014-02-01 to 2015-01-31

Overview

  • In the developing world, some 1% of the population is victimized by chronic wounds. There is an urgent clinical need to mitigate the threat to lives posed by wound infections and tissue necrosis.
  • With a relatively low operation temperature under 40°C, adjustment of plasma-excited species can mitigate bacteria load and create an environment conducive to healing.
  • Help save medical resources and shorten the time of patients suffering from pain.

Development Process

Over the course of this project under the Applied Research Incubation Program, the team developed a prototype and completed electrical testing and animal tests on diabetic ulcer healing.

Milestones

2014
  • Admission to the MOST’s Nursery Program.
2013
  • Supported by Cross-Ministries Development Plan for Medical Devices.
