Overview
- It is not uncommon for mandibular reconstruction to fail as the traditional reconstruction plate does not readily fit and may even break after repeated bending.
- 3D printing plays a key role in offering this unique prosthesis meant specifically for patients with mandibular defects.
- Crafted to meet patient needs, this prosthesis enjoys a longer-than-usual life span, spares the need for a second surgery after a failed one, and offers dental implant surgery as an option afterwards.
Development Process
Over the course of this project under the Applied Research Incubation Program, the team established an imaging database, made a prototype, and completed specifications validation. Biocompatibility and animal tests are now under way. On June 11, 2020, Hoka Medical Technology was established.
