Passive All Optical Intraocular Pressure Measurement Device

Wang Lon, National Taiwan University Hospital
Year 2017Year Period:2017-12-01 to 2020-12-31

Overview

  • Intraocular hypertension is a key symptom in glaucoma diagnosis. Keeping intraocular pressure under control is also the only way to treat this eye disease. Nevertheless, there is simply no easy-to-use device on the market that can perform multipoint, continuous monitoring of intraocular pressure and in turn assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing glaucoma and rendering treatment.
  • The team has thus drawn on its core competence in optical design and precision manufacturing to develop a novel passive all optical intraocular pressure measurement system that features ease of use, continuous measurement, and precision.
  • Help glaucoma patients and people with intraocular hypertension to monitor their intraocular pressure peak for the reference of precision diagnosis and medication.

Development Process

Over the course of this project under the Applied Research Incubation Program, the team completed a prototype, functionality assays, and biocompatibility and sterility tests. With Taiwan FDA having given the greenlight, a human trial is now under way.

Milestones

2017
  • Admission to the MOST’s Nursery Program.
